Meet the Makers - Good for You Girls

This week in our Meet the Makers series, we write about the beauty of natural skincare and spotlight Good For You Girls. Many of us have a way of collecting beauty products, from lotions and shampoos to various face washes and toners. While we want to keep our skin healthy and youthful, it’s also kind of fun to try different products and scents. Our girls tend to pick up this love but often the products that are marketed towards females aren’t the best ones for teens.

As girls grow, their skin undergoes various changes. We’ve all been through it, whether it’s oiliness or dryness, acne or a touch or rosacea. Many skincare products aimed at teens feature harsh chemicals that can be tough on sensitive skin. Some are even known to be harmful to our health! So, here is why we love Good For You Girls...

Kim Grustas was watching her two daughters blossom into young women before her eyes. As they grew older, she began to realize that stores were bombarding them with products that contained chemicals and other synthetic ingredients. As someone with extensive knowledge of the natural products industry, she recognized that the teen market was being overlooked.

In Kim's observation, girls are different from many grown women. Many are not naturally drawn to scents like lavender or eucalyptus, two fragrances that dominate the natural goods market. She also noticed that many aren’t drawn to the simple, understated designs and smells that typically don the shelves of your health food store. When Kim tried to integrate these lotions, toners, and soaps into her daughters’ beauty regimens, they were underwhelmed.

Kim decided that if her daughters wouldn’t gravitate towards any natural beauty products, then she would just have to design a line that would excite them. The result is Good for You Girls, a collection of skincare products that are directed specifically towards growing young women.

Good for You Girls is a brand that isn’t afraid to say “No.” These products contain no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances or dyes. They’re even gluten-free and completely vegan! The products are never tested on animals, and they’re made here in the U.S.

For many young women, beauty products are emblematic of the ‘coming of age’ movement. They represent the first tentative steps into adulthood. It is a vital stage of growing up—and luckily, Good for You Girls ensures that it’s one that doesn’t have to include harmful additives.

At Modern Kids Design, we appreciate the research and hard work that has gone into the development of these healthier skin care products. Knowing that they skip the harsh chemicals and present girls with a healthy skin care alternative makes us happy. As Good For You Girls notes on their website, “self care is love passed down.” Good For You Girls present just the kind of love we need: natural. Has your teen tried Good For You Girls? If so, we'd love to know what you think. Check out our Spa category to see a full selection by Good For You Girls.
